Madhubala- an epitome of beauty and a serene actor. Her name takes you back to the time when she was the reigning queen of Bollywood and had hearts fluttering with her dimpled smile.  As it is Madhubala’s 86th birth anniversary today, Google has a paid tribute with a doodle dedicated to the Mughal-E-Azam star.

Known as ‘The Marilyn Monroe of Bollywood’, Madhubala was born in Delhi February 14, 1933 as Mumtaz Jehan Begum Dehlavi. Later, the actress made her acting debut at the age of 9 with film Basant, which became the highest-grossing Indian film of that year. However, Madhubala’s career actually kick-started when she was paired opposite Raj Kapoor in Neel Kamal (1947).  At the age of 14, she took the name Madhubala as her screen name. Raised in the slums of Bombay, she supported her family as a child star and soon became a leading lady known for her elegance and acting abilities.

Madhubala, who acted in over 70 films, was regarded as one of the most beautiful women in the world during her time and even today is remembered as one. She is known for her films like Mahal (1949), Dulari (1949), Beqasoor (1950), Tarana (1951), Amar (1954), Mr. & Mrs. ’55 (1955), Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi (1958), Howrah Bridge (1958) and Mughal-e-Azam (1960) among others.

But, Madhubala’s flying career and life cut short when she breathed her last on February 23, 1969, due to prolonged illness. In 2018, Madhubala’s youngest sister, Madhur Brij Bhushan announced a biopic on the late legendary actress. She had said in a statement, “I am going in for a biopic on my sister, which will be produced by my very dear friends, very soon. It’s my humble request to all the well-wishers of Madhubala and whosoever is connected with Bollywood or elsewhere to please not attempt a biopic or anything else based on my sister’s life without my permission. The details will be known to her fans and to all concerned when the right time comes. So, please try to avoid any kind of unpleasant situation.”
